Fraud Office to investigate MG Rover demise

Ian Lucas MP, Minister for Business and Regulatory Reform, in response to an Urgent Question from Kenneth Clarke MP, the Conservative Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, told the Commons that the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the MG Rover car company in 2005.

The Minister told MPs that, following legal advice, the results of the initial inquiry would not be published to make sure any criminal investigation was not prejudiced. The new SFO investigation comes after the completion of a four year inquiry under section 432 of the Companies Act by inspectors appointed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
