The Communities and Local Government Committee holds a one-off evidence session with John Healey, Minister for Housing, to discuss the outcome of the Government’s review of housing finance and the reasoning behind it. Watch from 4.50 pm

On 12 December 2007, the Government announced a review of council housing finance to:

"develop a sustainable, long term system for financing council housing, one that is consistent with wider housing policy, including the establishment of a regulator of social housing."

On 30 June 2009, the Minister for Housing announced the outcome, stating that he intended to:

"dismantle the housing revenue account subsidy system and replace it with a devolved system of responsibility and funding."
