On the third anniversary of my election as Lord Speaker I have, as in previous years, written to all Members of the House of Lords updating them on my activities over the last 12 months.

The paramount issue that has emerged in this busy and challenging year is the need to restore public confidence and trust in Parliament. My letter sets out some of the work now in progress to address this issue and to improve the transparency of governance arrangements and structures to strengthen these where necessary.

The task of improving public communication of the Houses work, role and composition is particularly important at this time: the letter also deals with the year's busy programme of outreach and educational activities.
