Minister speaks to British film and TV industries inquiry

The House of Lords Communications Committee will hear evidence from Lord Stephen Carter, Minister for Communications, Technology and Broadcasting, at 3.45 pm as part of their inquiry into the British film and televisions industries
On 16 June, Lord Carter published Digital Britain setting out proposals for the future of communications in the digital age. The Committee will ask Lord Carter a range of questions in areas where his report impacts on their inquiry into the UK film and television industries.
Areas the Committee are likely to touch on include; support for public service content, the proposed expanded remit for Channel 4, the funding of UK content, including proposals for contestable funding using a portion of the licence fee, investment in skills for the film and television industries and audiovisual piracy.
The Committee is also holding an evidence session at 10.30am.
During this session, the Committee will hear evidence from:

- Kerry Neilson, the Satellite and Cable Broadcasters' Group
- Clare Binns, City Screen
- Phil Clapp, Cinema Exhibitors' Association
- Professor Ian Christie, Association of Independent Film Exhibitors
- Timothy Richards, Vue Entertainment
The Committee's inquiry examines the contribution of the UK film and television industries to the British economy and how this might be increased. It also looks at the cultural contribution of the industry and how current arrangements support UK investment and jobs.
