MPs debate Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill

The Commons debated the report stage and third reading of the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Bill, which will amend the law on immigration, asylum and nationality

The Bill's provisions include:

  • Giving a new duty to the Border Agency to safeguard the welfare of children
  • Transferring some functions from HM Revenue and Customs to the Border Agency
  • Amending provisions of the British Nationality Act 1981
  • Changing the way some immigration and nationality cases are heard.
