Parliamentary Standards Bill: committee stage

Members of the Lords began the line by line examination of the Parliamentary Standards Bill on 14 July
Amendments (proposals for change) discussed included clauses (parts) 1-7 of the Bill covering the proposed Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, MPs' code of conduct related to financial interests and other issues.

Key proposals of the Bill include:
- establishing a body known as the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and an officer known as the Commissioner for Parliamentary Investigations
- making provision relating to salaries and allowances for Members of the House of Commons and to their financial interests and conduct.
A second day of committee stage is scheduled for 16 July. Every suggested change to the Bill can be discussed and every clause has to be agreed to.
During committee stage every Member can take part and votes can happen.
