Private Members’ Bills
13 July 2009 (updated on 22 April 2010)
Members of the Lords discussed the second reading - key principles - of four Private Members' Bills on 10 July.
- Lords Hansard: Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies and Credit Unions Bill
- Lords Hansard: Autism Bill
- Lords Hansard: Holocaust (Return of Cultural Objects) Bill
- Lords Hansard: Driving Instruction (Suspension and Exemption Powers) Bill
- Private Members' Bills
- Briefing: Bills and how they become law (PDF)
All four Bills were introduced in the House of Commons first. To become law a Private Members' Bill must go through the same stages in both Houses - as per a Government Bill.
The Bills proceed to committee stage for line by line examination of their content - dates for which are still to be scheduled.
