House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow, is today taking up an invitation from Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP to visit the Scottish Parliament in Holyrood. It will be the first in a series of meetings with his counterparts in all three devolved legislatures

Mr Bercow is keen to meet Mr Fergusson and to discuss matters of common interest. He has not visited Holyrood and wishes to develop his understanding of Parliamentary practice and procedure in Scotland.

During the visit, the Speaker will also tour the Scottish Parliament and attend First Minister’s Question Time. As part of the Speaker’s Outreach Programme, he will meet school children visiting Holyrood and talk to them about his role and the work of the House of Commons.

Further visits by the Speaker to the Welsh and Northern Ireland Assemblies are also planned before the House of Commons returns on 12 October.
