House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow, will today visit his counterpart at the Welsh Assembly, the Rt Hon the Lord Elis-Thomas. This is the second in a series of meetings with the presiding officers in all three devolved legislatures.

Mr Bercow is keen to meet Lord Elis-Thomas to discuss matters of common interest. He has not visited the National Assembly of Wales and wishes to develop his understanding of Parliamentary practice and procedure in Wales.

During the visit, the Speaker will also tour the Welsh Assembly, observe ministers’ questions and meet with Welsh Assembly members and officials. As part of the Speaker’s outreach programme, he will also meet school children visiting the Senedd and visit a school in Cardiff where he will talk to the students about his role and the work of the House of Commons.

A further visit by the Speaker to the Northern Ireland Assembly is also planned before the House of Commons returns on 12 October.
