Breaking Barriers exhibition opens in Brentwood

The is now open at Brentwood Library, Essex. The exhibition was officially opened by Councillor Elizabeth Hart with members of staff dressed as suffragettes also taking part.
David Preston of Brentwood Library said:
"We are happy and proud here in Brentwood that this library was chosen to launch this important, informative and inspirational exhibition in Essex. The role of the women of our county in the struggle for the vote is one that needs highlighting to a wider audience."
As part of the exhibition a group from Brentwood Towns Women’s Guild, which was founded by local suffragists, researched their own collections and created a unique display case of objects relating to the Guild.
There will also be free adult education sessions delivered at the library on 27 October 2009 by the Women’s Library and Parliamentary Outreach.
The exhibition is on display at Brentwood Library until 22 November 2009 when the exhibition will move to be displayed at Epping Forrest Museum during 2010.
