Children, Schools and Families Committee pre-appointment hearing examines the professional competence and personal independence of the Government's preferred candidate for the post of Children’s Commissioner for England, Maggie Atkinson. The session starts at 3.45pm and is expected to last approximately one hour

The present Children’s Commissioner for England, Professor Sir Al Aynsley-Green, will come to the end of his five-year contract on 28 February 2010.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has identified Maggie Atkinson, currently Director of Children’s Services at Gateshead Council, Chair of the National Expert Group on the Children’s Workforce, and National Chair for the Centre of Excellence in Outcomes (C4EO), as the preferred candidate to succeed the present Commissioner. Until March 2008, Maggie Atkinson was President of the ADCS (Association of Directors of Children’s Services).
