The Commons Science and Technology Committee publishes Home Secretary, Alan Johnson's, response to its request for background to the sacking of Professor David Nutt as Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs

Other responses were requested and received from Professor Nutt himself, from Professor Beddington, Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Professor Wiles, Chief Scientific Adviser to the Home Office.

The Committee has no plans currently to call Alan Johnson or Professor Nutt to appear before it, but is likely to use the responses to contribute to Professor Beddington's report on Lord Rees's 'Principles for the Treatment of Independent Scientific Advice'.
