Youths not in education, training or employment

The Children, Schools and Families Committee has announced it is to hold run a new inquiry into young people not in education, employment or training - otherwise known as NEETs

The inquiry will examine the following questions:

  • strategies for the identification of young people at risk of falling into the NEET category
  • services and programmes to support those most at risk of becomin NEET, and to reduce the numbers and address the needs of those who have become persistently NEET
  • the effectiveness of the Government’s NEET strategy
  • the likely impact of raising the participation age on strategies for addressing the needs of young people not in education, employment or training
  • the opportunities and future prospects in education, training and employment for 16–18 year olds

The Committee asks that written evidence is submitted by Wednesday 16 December.
