Lords Committee inquiry into research funding continues

The Lords Science and Technology Committee will take evidence at 3.40 pm from six organisations as part of its inquiry into research funding

In the first session, at 3.40pm, the Committee will question the following witnesses about the principles their organisations use in making decisions about funding different types of research and how research priorities are set. In addition, they will be asked about co-ordination between government departments and other funders of research.

  • Dr Andrew Wadge, Chief Scientist, Food Standards Agency
  • Miranda Kavanagh, Director of Evidence, Environment Agency
  • Dr Andrew Scott, Science Director, Joint Nature Conservation Committee

The second session, at 4.40pm, will cover some of the same topics as the first, and also touch on the subject of the role and influence of departmental Chief Scientific Advisers. The following witnesses will answer questions from the Committee:

  • Dr Brian Bowsher, Director, National Physical Laboratory
  • Professor Peter Borriello, Chief Executive, Veterinary Laboratories Agency
  • Mr Derrick Ryall, Head of Climate Programme, Met Office
