Lord Myners, Financial Services Secretary, gives evidence to the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs, and International Trade at 3.05pm.

The Committee will be asking Lord Myners first about EU financial supervision and then the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFM Directive). This will be the second time that Lord Myners has given evidence as part of the Committees scrutiny of the AIFM Directive, the first time being in July 2009.

Subjects that the Committee will be asking Lord Myners about include:

  • The proposals for the institution of a new European Systemic Risk Board, to look at macro-prudential risks and three new European Supervisory Authorities.
  • Whether or not the AIFM Directive will permit equivalency between EU funds and 3rd country funds and regulation
  • Problems relating to the marketing of non-EU funds
  • The potential impact of keeping national private placement regimes in place
  • How the AIFM Directive compares to the current proposals for regulation of hedge funds that are under consideration in the USA.
