Defence Secretary makes Nimrod review statement

Bob Ainsworth, Secretary of State for Defence, made a statement to the House of Commons explaining to MPs how the Government is implementing the recommendations of Charles Haddon-Cave's report on the events leading to the loss of 14 service personnel aboard Nimrod XV230 on 2 September 2006.

The Defence Secretary's statement focused on three areas:
- the creation of a military aviation authority
- changes being made to the management of airworthiness
- the Ministry of Defence's relationship with industry
Oral statements are made after Question Time (or at 11am on a Friday). The statements usually relate to matters of policy or government actions.
At the end of a statement MPs can respond or question the government minister on its contents.
