Members of the Lords discussed the House of Lords European Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs and International Trade's report on developments in EU trade policy on 1 December

Baroness Cohen of Pimlico, chair of the EU Sub-Committee, opened and closed the debate and the Business Secretary, Lord Mandelson, responded on behalf of the Government.

Lords Select Committee reports are generally discussed either on the floor of the House (in the Chamber) or in Grand Committee (away from the Chamber).

Any Member of the Lords can take part and a minister responds for the Government.

The debate usually takes place once the Government has formally responded to the committee's recommendations.
