The work of the National Policing Improvement Agency
10.30am
- Chief Constable Peter Neyroud, Chief Executive, National Policing Improvement Agency
The purpose of the session is to examine the work of the National Policing Improvement Agency, in particular how the organisation is helping the police service to improve efficiency, in connection with the Committee’s inquiry into Police Service Strength.
Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee, said:
"As with all public services, the police are facing the prospect of serious funding constraints. The National Policing Improvement Agency has a crucial role to play in supporting the service to improve efficiency and productivity.
"We therefore look forward to hearing from its Chief Executive on how the organisation is working with forces to maximise capacity, with a particular focus on technology, skills, recording and accessing data, rationalising back office support and sharing good practice."
The work of the Home Office
11.00 am
- Rt Hon Alan Johnson, Secretary of State, Home Office
This is one of the Committee's twice-yearly general sessions with the Home Secretary on the work of the Home Office.
The chairman commented:
"There have been a number of issues which have arisen since the Home Secretary last appeared in July. We will be questioning the Home Secretary on a range of areas which the Committee has covered - cocaine, counter terrorism, the Crime and Security Bill and policing.
"A focus of the session will be on immigration which has recently been thrust into the political agenda by the Prime Minister and the Home Secretary.
"The Committee has a number of concerns in this vast area such as bogus colleges, student visas and the backlog of immigration cases.
"We are also interested to hear how the Home Secretary will be ironing out problems found within the Points Based System."
