Modern languages and the economy

Members of the House of Lords debated the contribution of modern language skills to the UK economy on 3 December.
The discussion included contributions from modern languages experts and bi-lingual Members of the House, and covered language teaching in schools and universities, lack of foreign language skills of school leavers and the need for language skills for employees of businesses operating in a global labour market.
