Members of the House of Lords discussed the Lords Science and Technology Committee's report on pandemic influenza on 7 December.

The committee's report praised the Government’s actions in stockpiling antivirals such as Tamiflu, and entering into advance purchase agreements for pandemic specific vaccine, and criticised other aspects of the Government’s preparations for the swine flu pandemic.

Chairman of the Committee, Lord Sutherland, introduced the debate and Lord Tunnicliffe responded on behalf of the Government.

Lords Select Committee reports are generally discussed either on the floor of the House (in the Chamber) or in Grand Committee (away from the Chamber).

Any Member of the Lords can take part and a minister responds for the Government.

The debate usually takes place once the Government has formally responded to the committee's recommendations.
