Prime Minister reports on recent visit to Afghanistan

The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, made a statement to the Commons about his visit to Afghanistan the previous weekend and to report on the conclusions of the European Council and the UK's role in the global talks on climate change.

The Prime Minister told the Commons that the Defence Secretary, Bob Ainsworth, would be announcing the following day plans for more equipment for the Afghan campaign, including more specialist counter-IED (improvised explosive device) support.
The Prime Minister also reported to the House that, to assist in adaptation and mitigation, the European Union had pledged €7.2 billion-or £6.6 billion-over three years to enable the world to reach its aim of $10 billion in climate change help for each year until 2012.
