Debate on progress made preventing violence against women

Solicitor General, Vera Baird, opened a debate in Westminster Hall on the issue of preventing violence against women

Ms Baird announced at the start of the debate that the Department of Health is expected to publish a report next month on the health aspects of violence against women.
This aims to identify the current national health service response to violence against women and girls in terms of prevention and treatment, and to consider what more needs to be done. Part of that work is looking at sexual violence against women and children.
Westminster Hall debates
Westminster Hall adjournment debates allow MPs to consider issues of local or personal interest which rarely have time to be debated in the main Chamber of the House of Commons. MPs can discuss a variety of issues and receive a response from a government Minister.
On Thursdays, the sitting consists of a single debate, either on a topic chosen by the Government - as on this occasion - or on a report from a select committee.
