Members of the House of Lords continued the line by line examination - committee stage - of the Digital Economy Bill on 12 January

Clauses 2-4 were discussed and covered issues including Ofcom reports on media content, unlawful file-sharing, rights holders and online copyright infringement reports.

Detailed line by line examination of the separate parts (clauses and schedules) of the Bill takes place during committee stage. Any Member of the Lords can take part.

Every clause of the Bill has to be agreed to and votes on the amendments (proposals for change) can take place.

All proposed amendments can be discussed and there is no time limit – or guillotine - on discussion of amendments.

The third day of committee stage takes place on 18 January.
