Members of the House of Lords contributed to the third day of committee stage - line by line examination - of the Digital Economy Bill on 18 January.

Clauses 4-8 were discussed. Issues covered included illegal file sharing activities, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and notifications of alleged copyright infringement, infringement lists to copyright owners and information and advice about copyright law and online infringement.

Detailed line by line examination of the separate parts (clauses and schedules) of the Bill takes place during committee stage. Any Member of the Lords can take part.

Every clause of the Bill has to be agreed to and votes on the amendments (proposals for change) can take place.

All proposed amendments can be discussed and there is no time limit – or guillotine - on discussion of amendments.

The third day of committee stage takes place on 20 January.
