The House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Development Policy hears evidence on piracy off the Somali Coast in a public meeting at 10.35 am

The Committee will question the Rear Admiral Peter Hudson who is the Operation Commander for EU Operation Atalanta.

The Atalanta Operation will be the focus of the meeting and the Committee will question the Rear Admiral on subjects such as the Operations priorities, strengths and weaknesses and how the Operations effectiveness could be improved. The Committee is also hoping to find out more about the interaction between Atalanta and the NATO and coalition maritime forces that operate in the area, as well as the resources such as maritime patrol aircraft that are part of the EU mission.

Questions will also be asked about the tactics of pirates and the frequency, type and location of pirate attacks in the Gulf of Arden and off the east coast of Africa.
