MPs debate importance of reliable energy supplies

Greg Clark, Conservative MP for Tunbridge Wells, opened an Opposition day debate in the Commons on energy security and the need to guarantee reliable, affordable and sustainable energy supplies. Ed Miliband, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, moved the amendment to the main motion. At the end of the debate, the Government's amendment was passed by 285 to 173 votes.

These types of debates are held on what are known as Opposition days which are allocated in the Commons during each parliamentary session to discuss subjects chosen by the opposition parties.
