MPs examine counter-terrorism measures at British airports

The Home Affairs Committee holds a one-off evidence session in which it examines the various new counter-terrorism measures to be adopted at British airports, including full body scanners, passenger profiling and 'no fly' lists. Watch live from 10.30am.
The session follows the announcement by the Home Secretary on 5 January that full body scanners would be deployed at British airports as part of an "immediate step to tighten aviation security", and a further announcement by the Prime Minister on 20 January on measures to "strengthen the proection of our borders, maximse aviation security, and ehance intelligence coordination at home and abroad".

Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee, said:
"The events which unfolded on Christmas day in America have transcended borders and caused the UK to also address airport security. Following the failed bomb plot there have been a series of announcements by the Home Secretary and Prime Minister which will see a major shake-up in airport security.
"This session will allow the Committee to investigate the usefulness of these measures, including the introduction of new technologies and systems to British airports. The Committee will also question whether the correct steps are being taken to maintain security of our borders."
