Questions to Lord Mandelson
19 January 2010 (updated on 22 April 2010)
The new question sessions for Secretaries of State sitting in the House of Lords continue on Thursday 21 January with Lord Mandelson, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, taking his first batch of additional questions under the new arrangements.
The initiative, agreed by the House of Lords Procedure Committee, continues to see Members of the House of Lords scrutinise the activities of the Government by ensuring the two Secretaries of State sitting in the Lords (Lord Mandelson and Lord Adonis) are directly responsible for answering the additional questions.
Questions to Lord Mandelson on 21 January
- Baroness Wall of New Barnet: former National Secretary and Head of Policy at the trade union AMICUS - to ask what action he is taking to give priority to STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at higher education level in the light of the possibility of spending cuts affecting universities.
- Lord Harrison: former Deputy Chairman of the North West Tourist Board and former Vice-President of the Association of County Councils - to ask how many businesses have accessed loans under the Enterprise Finance Guarantee scheme.
- Lord Forsyth of Drumlean: former Cabinet Minister and current member of the Lords Economic Affairs Committee who has held a range of senior positions in the financial services industry - to ask what measures he has put in place to encourage economic growth.
