What’s on in the Lords: 5-8 January

The House of Lords continues to scrutinise legislation, question and hold the Government to account from 5 January 2010.
Lords Chamber: Bills, debates and questions
Legislation in the Lords includes the main debate on the Child Poverty Bill and the start of line by line examination of the Digital Economy, Cluster Munitions (Prohibitions) and Bribery Bills on 5, 6 and 7 January.
Members of the House of Lords will debate issues covering Sudan, obesity among young people, the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and recommendations of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly on Climate Change and Renewable Energy throughout the week.
Questions to the Government this week include: funding of highly specialised research and treatment services; Iranian dissident refugees in Iraq; Eurostar trains which broke down in the Channel Tunnel; and regulation of astrologers.
Lords Select Committees: inquiries
European Union Sub-Committees in the Lords continue their inquiries into EU policy and cyber attacks, EU policy and agriculture and the European Social Fund; and the Constitution Committee launches its new inquiry into referendums.
