Members of the House of Lords contributed to a debate on the UK's national security strategy on 4 February.

A wide-ranging discussion took place on issues including: the definition of national security; the recent Green Paper on the future of UK defence; the role of the intelligence agencies; cyber attacks and security breaches; international terrorism; the UK's involvement in Afghanistan; and international border security.

In the House of Lords Members may table questions for debate, usually up to two hours and a half, on a specific issue or matter of concern.
