Lord Chancellor appears before Constitution Committee

Jack Straw MP, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, attends an annual meeting with the House of Lords Constitution Committee at 10.30am.

The Committee holds an annual evidence session with the Lord Chancellor to seek his views on developing constitutional and legal issues.

In particular, the Committee will question the Lord Chancellor about subjects including:

  • the Government’s approach to constitutional reform, including electoral reform, in light of the Prime
  • Minister’s recent speech on Transforming Politics
  • the Governance of Britain agenda and its progress over the last year
  • the Constitutional Reform and Governance Bill and the likelihood of the Bill becoming law
  • proposals for House of Lords reform
  • the operation of the Supreme Court in the six months since it opened
