Lords to debate funding cuts to higher education

Former Secretary of State for Education, Lord Baker of Dorking (Conservative), will open the debate which will focus on what the consequences of the cuts will be for education institutions and students in England.

Other speakers include:

• Lord Puttnam (Labour), film producer and chancellor of the Open University
• Baroness Greenfield (Crossbench), professor of pharmacology at the University of Oxford and chancellor of Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
• Lord Patten of Barnes (Conservative), chancellor of Oxford University and former Minister for Education and Science.
• Lord Butler of Brockwell (Crossbench), former Cabinet Secretary and former master of University College, Oxford.
• Baroness Perry of Southwark (Conservative), president of the Council for Independent Further Education and former vice chancellor of South Bank University.
• Lord Patel (Crossbench), chancellor of the University of Dundee and former consultant obstetrician.
• Lord Krebs (Crossbench), principal of Jesus College, University of Oxford.

Baroness Verma, Lord Ramsbotham, Lord Luce, Lord De Mauley and Lord Watson of Invergowrie will also take part in the debate.

Lord Young of Norwood Green will speak on behalf of the Government.
