MPs investigate work of the Independent Police Complaints Commission

Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee, said:
“The Independent Police Complaints Commission is an important body in maintaining people’s trust in the police force. This session will enable us to examine how effectively it is working and assess if public confidence in the police service is improved through the IPCC.
"We will be taking evidence from people who have had first-hand experience dealing with the IPCC and will be able to tell the Committee whether the IPCC is the rigorous, victim-oriented body the public need it to be. The de Menezes family have been outspoken at their unhappiness with the system and lack of justice for Jean Charles de Menezes, we are keen to hear how they feel this process has let them down.
"We will also be questioning the IPCC Chairman, Nick Hardwick, on his organisations achievements in the last year and how he sees the IPCC’s role changing in the future.”
