Adjournment debates
Adjournment debates are a way of having a general debate in the House of Commons without requiring the House to vote. The MP who tabled the subject of the debate will speak first and a Government minister will reply.
Early Day Motions
Early Day Motions (EDMs) are motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. Although very few EDMs are actually debated, they can demonstrate the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.
Ministerial statements
Ministerial statements can take the form of either oral or written statements. Oral statements often address major incidents, policies and actions. Written statements are often used to put the day-to-day business of government on the official record.
