Adjournment debates
Adjournment debates are a way of having a general debate in the House of Commons without requiring the House to vote. The MP who tabled the subject of the debate will speak first and a Government minister will reply.
Early Day Motions
Early Day Motions (EDMs) are motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons. Although very few EDMs are actually debated, they can demonstrate the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.
