Proposals to improve public engagement with Parliament will be debated in the House of Lords on 10 March following an inquiry into People and Parliament by the Lords Information Committee.

The debate will focus on findings of the Committee’s report, 'Are the Lords listening? Creating connections between people and Parliament', which sets out recommendations for the House of Lords and the Government. These include:
- An online debate to run in parallel with a debate in the Lords Chamber
- Greater access to the House of Lords for filming
- Information and documentation related to the core work of the House of Lords should be produced and made available online in an open standardised electronic format that enables people outside to analyse and re-use the data
- Better information about Members’ areas of expertise and interest
- A review of parliamentary language used in the House of Lords to make it easier for people outside the House to understand proceedings
The Government’s response is published in the Information Committee’s Annual Report which will also be under discussion during the debate.
