Members of the House of Lords contributed to a debate on 10 March on the Lords Information Committee's report into improving public engagement with Parliament and demystifying the work of both Houses

The debate focused on findings of the Committee’s report, 'Are the Lords listening? Creating connections between people and Parliament', which sets out recommendations for the House of Lords and the Government, including:
- running an online debate to run in parallel with a debate in the Lords Chamber
- providing greater access to the House of Lords for filming
- producing information and documentation related to the core work of the House of Lords made available online in an open standardised electronic format enabling people outside to analyse and re-use the data
- providing better information about Members’ areas of expertise and interest
- reviewing use of parliamentary language in the House of Lords to make it easier for people outside the House to understand proceedings.
The Government’s response is published in the Information Committee’s Annual Report which was also discussed.
