The Children, Schools and Families Committee today publishes its report examining the foundations of the education system

Over twenty years have elapsed since the passing of the Education Reform Act 1988, which underpins so much of what schools do today.

The purpose of this short report is to draw attention to some of the themes which unify the Committee’s reports on:

  • the National Curriculum
  • national testing and assessment
  • accountability structures
  • the training of teachers

The report also provides a little historical context.
