With campaigning for the forthcoming general election well underway the deadline for registering to vote is fast approaching. The last day to apply to register to vote is Tuesday 20 April

You need to be on the electoral register in order to vote in UK general and local elections. The electoral register is the list of names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in the UK.

Registration deadlines for General Election on 6 May

Tuesday 20 April

  • last day to apply to register to vote
  • last day for requests for a new postal vote or to change or cancel an existing postal vote or proxy vote appointment (5pm)

Tuesday 27 April

  • last day for new proxy (where someone you trust votes on your behalf) vote applications (5pm)
