Deadline for registering to vote passes

The deadline for registering to vote has now passed, so if you are not already on the electoral roll it is now too late to register and you will not be able to vote in the 6 May general election

As well as being the deadline for registering to vote, Tuesday 20 April was also the last day to apply for a new postal vote or to change or cancel an existing postal vote or proxy vote appointment.
You need to be on the electoral register in order to vote in UK general and local elections. The electoral register is the list of names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in the UK.
Proxy voting
Proxy voting means that you can appoint someone you trust to vote on your behalf, which can be useful if you are unable to get to a polling station, for instance if you are abroad on polling day. Anyone over 18 can apply for a proxy vote if you are on the electoral register but you will need to provide a reason.
If you are already on the electoral register, you can still apply for a new proxy vote until Tuesday 27 April.
