MPs debate Queen’s Speech
8 June 2010
Once the Queen has delivered the Speech outlining the Government's agenda for the coming year, the House of Commons and House of Lords each begin discussing the proposed programme of new laws and policies.
The first day of the Debate on the Address, as it is known, is more general in tone. On following days both Houses hold debates covering different subjects.

The programme for debating the Queen's Speech in the Commons has been as follows:
Tuesday 25 May: Debate on the Address
Wednesday 26 May: foreign affairs and defence
Thursday 27 May: energy, and environment, food and rural affairs

Wednesday 2 June: education and health
Monday 7 June: constitution and home affairs

Parliamentary programme
After the debates, the programme of work begins to turn what is outlined in the Queen's Speech into legislation as Bills are introduced in both Houses.
