Further information
Government Bills and Private Members’ Bills are the two types of Public Bills – the most common type of Bill introduced in Parliament. Public Bills change the law as it applies to the general population, rather than a specific group or location.
Ministers introduce Government Bills, which implement Government policy. Private Members’ Bills are introduced by individual Members who seek to change the law. These Bills must go through the same stages as a Government Bill.
