In a written statement on 7 June, Lord Strathclyde, the Leader of the House of Lords, outlined the Government’s plans to proceed with reform of the House of Lords.

A new committee has been set up to prepare a draft bill on Lords reform by the end of this year.

The draft bill will then receive pre-legislative scrutiny from a joint committee of the House of Lords and the House of Commons, with the agreement of senior party officials. This will allow backbenchers from both Houses to input on the policy in the draft bill.
