In the first of a number of introductions due to take place this week, Lord Liddle, Labour Party life Peer, and Lord Deben, Conservative life Peer, took their seats in the House of Lords. The short introduction ceremonies took place at the beginning of business on 21 June.

The introduction ceremony must take place in the Lords Chamber before each new Member is able to take their seat in the House.

During the ceremony, new Members either swear an oath or solemnly affirm their allegiance to the Queen; they also sign an undertaking to abide by the House of Lords Code of Conduct.
