Chris Bryant, Labour MP for Rhondda, opened an adjournment debate on the Act of Settlement. The Act of Settlement of 1701 was designed to secure the Protestant succession to the throne, and to strengthen the guarantees for ensuring a parliamentary system of government.

Adjournment debates allow the Commons to hold a general open-ended debate on a subject or a government policy without reaching a formal decision about it.
