Working practices in the Lords

Lord Strathclyde, the Leader of the House of Lords, opened a debate on the case for reviewing the working practices of the House of Lords on Monday 12 July.

Twenty-five members of the Lords contributed to the discussion. Issued raised included:
- remit of the Leader's Group
- role of the Lord Speaker in relation to chairing the House and chairing the House Committee, strategic governance of the House
- pre- and post-legislative scrutiny, including legislative standards
- procedure for statements repeated in the Lords
- improving ‘question time’ in the House of Lords.
