The Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow will be speaking in Brighton and Hove on September 23 as the city marks Democracy Day

During his visit to the city he will talk to community groups about his own experiences since taking up the post of Speaker in June 2009 and more generally about the House of Commons.

He will also discuss how community organisations can more effectively engage with the work that goes on at Parliament.

The events have been organised by the Take Part Pathfinder initiative in Brighton and Hove which promotes active citizenship by encouraging a greater number of people to take part in civil roles, decision-making and community leadership.

There will also be talks and workshops by the Parliamentary Outreach team that will explore the various ways you can get involved with Parliament’s work and processes.

The talks are open to the public and are taking place at libraries across the city.
