Bloody Sunday report debated in the Lords

Members of the House of Lords debated the findings of the report in to the events of 30 January 1972 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, known as 'Bloody Sunday' on Wednesday 12 October

The Bloody Sunday Inquiry was set up by a resolution of both Houses of Parliament in 1998. The inquiry into the events on Sunday 30 January 1972, chaired by Lord Saville of Newdigate published its findings on 15 June 2010.
Lord Macdonald of River Glaven made his maiden speech during the debate, condemning the Widgery report of 1972 and stated that ‘No great country can knowingly allow a great injustice to lie’. The Liberal Democrat life Peer went on to praise the ‘exemplary’ work of the Saville report, stating that it had ‘at long last delivered at least a measure of justice to all the victims of Bloody Sunday’.
