Lord Monks took his seat in the House of Lords following a short introduction ceremony at the beginning of business on Monday 11 October.

The Labour life Peer Lord Monks was General Secretary of the TUC from 1993 to 2003.

The introduction ceremony must take place in the Lords Chamber before each new Member is able to take their seat in the House. During the ceremony, new Members either swear an oath or solemnly affirm their allegiance to the Queen; they also sign an undertaking to abide by the House of Lords Code of Conduct.
