Lords debates two Private Members' Bills

On Friday 22 October, Members of the House of Lords took part in the second reading, the debate on the general issues, of two Private Members' Bills.
Private Members' Bills are pieces of legislation sponsored by Members of the House of Lords who aren't government ministers.
Although only a minority of Private Members' Bills receive the government support and time necessary to become law, sponsoring a Private Members' Bill offers members the opportunity to advocate a change to the law and to challenge the government to take action.

The Contaminated Blood (Support for Infected and Bereaved Persons) Bill

The Contaminated Blood (Support for Infected and Bereaved Persons) Bill has been introduced by Lord Morris of Manchester and would establish a compensation package to provide support for people who have been infected with certain diseases as a result of receiving contaminated blood and blood products supplied by the National Health Service.
The Building Regulations (Review) Bill

The Building Regulations (Review) Bill has been introduced by Lord Harrison and would establish a review of the Building Regulations 2000 with regard to the installation of automatic fire suppression systems in new residential premises.
